Brand Positioning & Organizational Storytelling

Libi Sprow Rice has spent more than 20 years helping organizations strengthen their brands: leading brand strategy at The Executive Leadership Council, where her work elevated the organization’s visibility with national and international reach, and before that delivering initiatives for some of the world’s most recognized brands and business leaders at Discovery Communications and CEB.

Organizations frequently do important work without effectively communicating why that work matters. We help clients develop clear narratives that connect mission, programs, people and impact.

How we approach it

Start with the question people actually ask

A funder, a legislator, a parent or a reporter asks the same two things of any organization: why does this matter, and why you? Most organizations answer with a list of programs. We help you answer with a narrative, one that a board member can tell at a dinner and a program officer can repeat in a grant memo without losing anything important.

The work moves from the inside out. Brand positioning and organizational messaging settle what you want to be known for and how you say it. Mission and value proposition development put the purpose in plain words. Impact narratives attach evidence to the claim, so the story holds up when someone checks. Audience-specific messaging adapts the same core for members, funders, policymakers and the public without turning into four different organizations.

Then we make it usable: case studies, leadership narratives, advocacy storytelling for a policy fight, campaign storytelling for a candidate, and communications toolkits so staff, board members, partners and ambassadors tell the same story in their own voices. The objective is to help organizations explain not simply what they do, but why it matters.

Where it shows up

One story, many doors

Funding and partnerships

The impact narrative that anchors a grant proposal, a sponsorship deck and a corporate partner’s internal pitch to its own leadership.

Advocacy

The story a coalition tells legislators and the press, with real people and real outcomes rather than talking points alone.

Campaigns and leaders

Why this candidate, why this seat, why now, and the leadership narrative behind an executive’s public voice.

That gap, between what you do and what people think you do, is usually where the storytelling work begins.
