Where we work

Located in Maryland. Focused on Washington, DC and New Jersey. Working nationwide.

Rice Public Impact Group lives and works out of downtown Baltimore, and our current focus is the District of Columbia and New Jersey, where our founder spent two decades in Newark and Essex County public life. Our practice areas travel wherever a client’s goals take them, anywhere in the country. These pages are our working notes on how the places we work in most actually run.

Why the place matters

A plan that works in Rockville can fail in Newark

Public affairs is local in the most literal way. When the council meets, how you sign up to speak, what triggers a lobbyist registration, which school board seats are elected and when, whether there is a public financing program, when the budget has to be adopted and when the next election falls: every one of those differs from one state line to the next, and the District has a federal layer on top. We keep a working file on each place, dated and sourced, and update it after every election and budget cycle.

Beyond these pages

The practice areas are not tied to a map

Government relations is jurisdiction by jurisdiction. Campaign strategy, executive communications, organizational storytelling, coalition building, partnerships and signature events are not: the disciplines are the same in Newark, Buffalo or Honolulu, and our principals have worked with leaders from all of them. We work with clients nationwide: if your goal lives somewhere not listed here, the first conversation is the same.
